DOE Vaccination Update

Hi, as of today, at least ~ 65,000 DOE employees have been vaccinated based on city records. This number is inclusive of pedagogical staff (e.g. teachers, principals, assistant principals, social workers, guidance counselors) as well as non-pedagogical staff (e.g. paraprofessionals, school food workers, school aides and administrative employees).

There are ~147,000 DOE staff system-wide. Here is the breakdown:

Number of staff with at least one dose

Total in DOE

Non- Pedagogical

The actual number of staff who have been vaccinated is larger than these counts as these totals do not include staff who are not New York City residents or who were vaccinated at sites outside of New York City such as Long Island, Westchester, New Jersey, and Connecticut.

In order to meet the demand for vaccines, the DOE worked with City partners since January to facilitate priority vaccine access for DOE in-person school staff. While the CDC does not consider vaccinations to be a requirement for reopening, with ~65,000 vaccines administered to staff, an in-school positivity rate of 0.57%, and over 700,000 COVID-tests taken in schools, New York City schools have the gold standard for school reopening and continue to serve as the model for other districts as they return to in-person learning.

Thank you,
