Rolling Up My Sleeves

NEW YORK:___ Last week, I was pleased to participate in the refurbishing of synagogue Maor Hachaim in Brighton Beach/Coney Island. This synagogue has been a mainstay of the community since its opening over 50 years ago and now needs some sprucing up. I was happy to join in this endeavor.

As someone that attends synagogue services daily, I cherish the chance to physically help beautify such a place. This particular congregation was built primarily by Holocaust survivors who made new lives on these shores. Over time, most of them have passed on and most of the congregants today are Russian speaking Jewish immigrants.

I look forward to the grand reopening in the coming weeks.
