New Yorkers of color and low-income New Yorkers were disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, it’s on our city government to make sure these same communities are able to get vaccinated.
That’s why I’m calling on the City to release all demographic data in real time, showing who has received the vaccine by age, race, profession, and zip code.
Having this information will allow New Yorkers to hold the de Blasio Administration accountable for protecting all residents of our city equally.
Right now, we must prioritize safe, rapid distribution of vaccines. And if people have questions or concerns, we need to answer them — in every single neighborhood, in every single language.
My plan, if implemented, would ensure that businesses provide paid time off for employees to get vaccinated, support a large-scale marketing campaign to make sure all New Yorkers are receiving accurate information about COVID-19, and ensure that our city is prepared for the arrival of new vaccines.
Our city owes it to each and every single New Yorker, especially the most vulnerable among us, to be as transparent and efficient as possible in distribution. That’s how we’ll save lives.
