NEW YORK:____We believe democracy starts at the district level, and are thrilled that our movement is growing. We have surpassed our goals since launching on December 2, 2020, a testament to our grassroots, people-powered campaign. Everything that the campaign has inspired, including our mailing list, has been through organic interactions with community members: mothers, workers, organizers, LGBQTIA+ folks, immigrants, activists, grandparents, small business owners, and so many others.
As of the 1/11/21 filing date, we are proud to share:
- We fundraised: $26,643.89
- We claimed for matching through the NYC Public Financing Program: $11,758
- 112 contributors from within the district
- 364 total contributions from all donors
- Average contribution amount: $73
Our campaign is powered by small donors and local supporters who want radical change in the City Council, a change that is led by a progressive woman of color who has the government experience, deep community relationships, and inclusive vision to build a just district. Our donors see the historic significance of a feminist Vietnamese-American single mom standing up to the establishment. Our campaign is evolving, in conversation with grassroots activists, and centering working families, real affordable housing and healthcare, universal childcare, and an economy that works for all of us.
As we look forward to leadership transition in the federal government this week, we know that change always starts locally, block by block, with grassroots partners and elected officials, marching together for the policies we want to see.
