Honor Our Heroes on Veterans Day

Happy Veterans Day!

Today and every day, we express our immense gratitude to the military heroes who have fought, and continue to fight, to allow us to live in a country that celebrates freedom.

In 2018, I was honored to be appointed as the Chairman of the New York City Council’s Veterans Committee, where I advocate for veterans and their families every single day. I asked for this role because of my gratitude to the military, without whom I would not be here today. My father was a Holocaust survivor who was just a child when he was imprisoned in Auschwitz. He survived three concentration camps and two death marches. He was given his freedom when the 71st Infantry Division of the United States Army liberated the concentration camp called Gunskirchen.

Now it is my opportunity to give back to the veterans who gave my father and thousands of other survivors their freedom, paving the way for generations to come.

Thank you veterans and all military families!

On last Thursday’s radio show, I spoke about my relationship with the veterans community. I also welcomed NYC Commissioner James Hendon of the Department of Veterans Services. Later, we were joined by Rizy Horowitz, a Holocaust survivor advocate, and Janaya Kerben, an attorney who volunteers with Holocaust survivors.
