Proposed Rules on Hair Discrimination
On October 15, the Commission held an online public hearing on proposed rules concerning discrimination based on hair, hairstyles, and head coverings as a form of religious and racial discrimination. Click here to read written testimony.

Commission Testifies on COVID-19 Crisis and Human Rights
On October 23, Deputy Commissioners Dana Sussman and Brittny Saunders (pictured) testified before the NYC Council Committee on Civil and Human Rights to address the Commission’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, including a rise in anti-Asian discrimination and harassment, and the Commission’s longstanding work to address racial injustice. Click here to watch the full hearing.

New Settlement Highlights
Following a Commission-initiated complaint against a landlord who harassed a potential tenant based on their citizenship status, we reached a settlement for $15,000 and required the landlord to include our notice of rights document in all future leases. Click here to check out the Commission’s latest settlement highlights.
