NEW YORK _____Dear Fellow New Yorker,
Six months ago we laid out our 2019 Justice Agenda — an aggressive blueprint to move New York forward — and today I’m proud to say we got it done.
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced historic progressive accomplishments ushered in during this year’s Legislative Session – the most productive in modern political history.
We took nation-leading action on climate change: With the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, New York has enacted the most aggressive climate change program in the nation, putting New York on the road to net zero emissions in all sectors of the economy.
We advanced LGBTQ rights: We banned conversion therapy, enacted the Gender Expression Non-Discrimination Act, and banned the repugnant “gay and trans panic” legal defense.
We advanced workers’ rights: We established a Farmworkers Bill of Rights to give farmworkers the ability to unionize and other rights, and we extended Janus protections to all local governments.
We passed common-sense gun reform: We enacted additional measures to ensure guns are kept out of the wrong hands, including the Red Flag Bill, a ban on bump stocks, and extending the background check waiting period.
We made our democracy stronger: We enacted early voting, no-excuse absentee voting, same-day voter registration, and other reforms to make voting simpler and to ensure our elections are fair.
We enacted the Women’s Justice Agenda: We enacted additional sexual harassment protections and new reforms to close the gender wage gap once and for all.
We brought justice to survivors: We passed the Child Victims Act and expanded the statute of limitation for second and third degree rape.
And much, much more…
These actions will make our state stronger and fairer. My thanks go out to our partners in the Legislature and to you — we couldn’t have done this without your support and faith in our leadership.
